WCF’s Board of Directors has marked healthcare as a priority targeted industry. The Central Florida
Healthcare Industry is projected to need over 1600 employees each year for the next ten years. WCF
gathered the industry’s top stakeholders, including employers, training providers and community partners
to work on healthcare workforce needs and issues, and created a nationally recognized, ground-breaking,
inventive WCF Healthcare Workforce Model to support the continuing workforce demand in this industry.
Employed Worker Training Grants
Since the Healthcare Model was kicked off in 2004, WCF has awarded over $450,000 in Employed Worker
Training Grants to the healthcare industry. These awards have trained over 800 current healthcare
workers, resulting in promotions, raises, increased skills, decreased turnover and even more opportunity
to pursue additional degrees and training certifications. Employed Worker Training grants are awarded in
a year-round program, and healthcare employers are eligible for up to $50,000 in matching training dollars.

Continuing to work as a catalyst organization to foster an environment for discussions and solutions in
the industry, WCF is a lead partner in several ongoing initiatives:
Partners for a Healthy Community
WCF as a lead partner, funds the Director position for the Partners for a Healthy Community
initiative. PHC is a consortium of healthcare providers, educational institutions and community partners
in our five county region whose mission is to increase the supply of trained healthcare workers in Central
Florida.
Building on the success of the PHC initiative WCF has partnered with our three community colleges and
industry partners in a Department of Labor Community Based Job Training Grant. The grant was awarded in
the amount of $1,999,994 to increase RN enrollment at all three schools by increasing capacity and faculty.
