The manager should use this check list to ensure that they have sufficiently prepared for the Separation Meeting.
- Do I understand my role as the separation manager?
- Have I prepared:
- a statement announcing the separation, one which may be repeated if necessary?
- a statement that gives the reasons for the separation, one that can be clearly understood by the separated employee?
- a statement and a letter that describes the benefits of the separation package?
- Do I understand how the work transition is to take place?
- Have I made provisions for the separated employee to clean out his/her workspace at an appropriate time?
- Do I know how to handle the difficult response?
- Have arrangements been made with the local One Stop Center to provide outplacement services to the affected employees
on the day of the layoff, and a continuation of reemployment services?
