The face of the United States is changing every day as our
society becomes more culturally diverse. According to the
U.S. Census Bureau, one out of three Americans identify themselves
as a minority, and this ratio is expected to continue to
increase.
Employee morale. It’s a subject that is often neglected in the
best of times and commonly feared during the worst. But, in order
to advance your business goals, employee morale must be evaluated,
discussed and addressed.
Every company has a difficult employee -- the person who
constantly complains, bullies others or is not working up to par.
As a manager, you must act on this issue immediately, because the
longer the employee demonstrates this behavior, the worse it will
get, the harder it will be to change it, the less work will be
completed and the lower employee morale will be.
Employers cannot afford to tolerate employees who are marginal
performers. Inevitably, every manager sooner or later will
have to deal with a poor performer, an employee who is not
successfully performing his or her duties.
Imagine that your thriving business is negatively impacted by a
natural disaster. Will your company survive? The Federal Emergency
Management Agency reports that nearly 40 percent of small
businesses will not reopen after a major disaster.
With the growth of social media, employers must determine how
they will allow their employees to use social media in the
workplace. Use these guidelines to create a social media
policy, or guidelines for commuinicating online, to help protect
your employees, client and brand.
It’s the first time in American history that four generations
are sharing the workplace, from Traditionalists and Baby Boomers to
Generation X and the Millennials. As a manager, it’s
important to understand and acknowledge these differences to avoid
misunderstandings and to help your team work effectively to meet
its goals.
A workplace safety program is a must for any business to protect
workers from injury, illness or in the worst situation –
death. Besides protecting workers, having a safe and
hazardous-free environment increases productivity and reduces
employee sick time, the cost of health insurance benefits and
workers’ compensation claims.
